The healthcare practice technology stack, explained
What each category of system is actually for, and which overlaps cause the most duplicate work.

The categories
Practice management sits at the centre: the schedule, the ledger, the patient record. Scheduling, digital forms, patient communication, reviews, marketing, payments, recall and analytics all orbit it.
Vendors frequently sell across several of these categories at once, which is why practices end up owning the same capability twice without noticing.
Where duplication usually hides
Patient communication and recall overlap constantly. So do forms and practice management intake. So do reviews and communication platforms.
The symptom is not cost. It is a team member entering the same patient detail into a second screen.
How to audit it in an hour
List every system anyone logs into during a normal day. Then take one routine task — a new patient from first call to first visit — and mark each point where a human moves information between systems.
Each of those hand-offs is a candidate for removal, and each is measurable in minutes per day.
A note on neutrality
The Practice Check does not resell, recommend or receive commission from any of these categories of vendor. This guide names categories, not products, deliberately.
